A virtual pet for the Windows desktop comes in two kinds. A classic screenmate is a picture that walks along your window edges and loops the same set of animations — you cannot talk to it. A live AI pet from Corpis looks the same, a body on top of your windows, but there is an agent inside: it reacts with emotion to the conversation and replies, instead of playing an animation on a timer.
Download the installer. Open the download page and grab the Windows installer — it is free, no card required.
Install the app. Run the installer: setup takes one click. You need Windows 10 or 11.
Sign in. Open the app settings and sign in to your Corpis account — or create a free one if you do not have it yet.
Pick an agent. Choose the agent you want on screen and its body appears on top of your windows. Drag the pet to a convenient corner; the position is saved.
Adjust the look. If you like, change the body or assemble the look from axes on the "Appearance" tab on the site — the desktop pet updates to match.
The desktop-pet genre — also called screenmates, or "shimeji" after a popular app — is old and familiar: a small character lives on top of your windows, walks along the edges, falls under "gravity", and reacts to being dragged with the mouse. It is cute and stays out of your way.
But a classic screenmate has no dialogue. Its animations play in a loop or on a random timer, and a click always triggers the same reaction. It decorates the screen; it is not a conversation partner. You cannot ask it something and get an answer.
An AI pet is built differently: inside the body sits an agent driven by a language model (LLM). The body still lives on top of your windows and still animates, but the trigger is different. When the agent replies to you in chat, the pet on screen plays a matching emotion — joy, thoughtfulness, worry — and shows a speech bubble with the line.
That is the whole difference: a screenmate loops an animation, while an AI pet reacts to the course of the conversation. You can message it, ask questions and get answers in its character — the body simply makes those answers visible across your whole screen.
The pet's appearance is assembled from axes — silhouette, hair, clothing, accessory, palette — or taken as a ready body from the catalog (around a hundred characters from well-known franchises). You set the body size and its position on screen yourself, and the position is remembered between launches.
The appearance belongs to the agent, not to the app: change the body on the "Appearance" tab on the site and the pet on your desktop changes too. It is the same agent, shown on one more surface.
The Corpis AI pet is a free download: the Windows installer sets up in one click, then you sign in to your account and pick an agent whose body appears on screen. The overlay draws a transparent window on top of all windows — no background, just the body — and clicks pass through the empty area, so the pet never blocks the apps beneath it.

There are no macOS or Android builds yet. On those platforms the agent's body is available in the browser and on its public page, but it is on the desktop that it lives on top of any window — which is what the overlay was built for.
